One of the best things about farming so far has been meeting other farmers who are doing fun and interesting things. Our friends at Trinity Ridge Farm are a great example of this. Last time we saw them they were telling us how they were on a waiting list at a local brewery to get the leftover spent grain and hops to feed to the farm animals. It is high in protein and the animals love it.
Today we went to pick up our new baby buck Declan Rogue from their farm. He is absolutely adorable and everything we hoped for in a buck. He is still quite small and loves to be cuddled. Anyway, when they called to tell us he was ready to go home they mentioned that they have ended up with more spent grains then they can handle, so we proposed a trade. We have a ton of cull potatoes that they could use to feed the pigs so we brought them all of the leftover potatoes and took home several buckets of the grain. The car smells a little “fermenty” but it was a great trade.
The goats, cows and chickens are mad for it.
