COOKING FROM THE GARDEN

10/27/2010

This month we have been having fun in the kitchen here at Siren Song- and by fun I mean I have been experimenting in the kitchen and forcing everyone else to try it. Luckily for everyone here I am a very good cook and everything has been fantastic. Although, to be fair most food cooked fresh from the garden is fantastic. For more ideas check out Rosalind Creasy's "Recipes from the Garden"

So here is a little taste of what's been going on in the kitchen! If anyone has questions just let me know! The recipes are posted under the CSA Recipes tab.

Polenta with Leeks, Wilted Greens and Mushrooms

Made with chard, spinach, beet greens and dandelion greens sauteed with shittake and oyster mushrooms.
Polenta has chives, parsley, garlic and parmesan baked into it.

Rachel Kaiser finished our logo today. We are so excited! We knew exactly what we wanted but my total and complete fear of drawing faces and hands had stalled the process completely. She is currently working on several seasonal variations as well. We will post these as soon as we get them.

The Gardeners Dilemma

10/2/2010

So in the world we live in right now the dilemma of the month is: To go see Toby Hemenway and maybe Larry Santoyo in Portland or Joel Salatin and Eliot Coleman in Colorado? Aaahhhhh! Salatin and Coleman in one place! While my instincts say to go see Salatin, my pocketbook screams ”Hemenway is paid for.” Why oh why must everything be on the same weekend! I also just found out that Salatin was in Corvallis last month and we missed him there.

So just for the record- the next time Salatin or Coleman is within driving distance we will be there and if Sepp Holtzer comes back and I miss him well… I lack any sort of threat to go in here but I may cry.
